Bushnell Excursion HD 8x42 Details

Boasting a massively wide field of view, along with bright high-quality images, these binoculars immediately jump out as being a superb choice for birders or hunters who often need to quickly locate and then track small, fast and often erratic moving wildlife from close to medium distances.
The large exit pupil, along with the fully multi-coated optics contribute to a good low light capability and thus once again will benefit those who often use their instrument in sub-optimal light conditions as you often find in thick woods, or at the beginning or end of the day in the field.
At only 2 meters, the minimum focus distance is also good for detailed observation of tamer birds at on your feeder or butterflies in your garden.
The plentiful eye-relief along with twist-up eyecups ensure you can adjust them to your specific requirements and makes these a good choice for eyeglass wearers.

About Bushnell Excursion HD Binoculars

Available in the two most popular configurations (an 8x42 and 10x42), the Excursion HD binoculars have a number of superior components and features when compared to others within their price range and which all combine well to offer a good price to performance ratio.
These features, along with a number of impressive specifications, make the Excursion HDs ideal all-purpose binoculars that will excel in a wide range of areas. This includes most general wildlife and nature observation pursuits, but especially for birding and hunting. Great to keep around the house and use in the garden, but also good to take along to most outdoor sporting events.

Important Features

This line of Bushnell binoculars has an open bridge body shape that is designed to be user-friendly, secure to hold onto and comfortable. The exterior surface is covered in a hard-wearing, protective rubber armour that further improves grip and comfort. It also has the added bonuses of dampening sound and being less reflective that both make for a more stealthy instrument.
Underneath is a tough, sealed chassis filled with dry nitrogen gas ensuring that not only are these Excursion binoculars watertight, but the internal optics are resistant to fogging as well.
The centrally located focus wheel is both large and rubber textured making it easy to reach and adjust precisely even with gloves on. It is also lockable which is a somewhat unique feature of these Excursion HD binoculars. A diopter adjustment ring is located on the right eyepiece and the eye-relief can be precisely tuned to your needs with the multi-stop twist-up eyecups. Like the body, these are also rubberized to improve comfort when glassing.
These binoculars will also accept a standard tripod adapter by removing the dust cap on the front hinge.

Optical Properties

Environmentally friendly, the lead-free glass optics used on the Excursion HD binoculars have been fully multi-coated. These coatings are added to reduce the light reflected away from each optical surface and thus more of it is transmitted through the instrument and onto your eyes for clearer and brighter views.
Roof prisms are used to correct the inverted image, these are made from high-grade BaK-4 optical glass and produce a better resolution than lower quality prisms. Bushnell has also added their proprietary PC-3 phase correction coatings to these prisms. Only found on their higher quality binoculars, it improves both resolution and contrast by eliminating the phase shift that occurs when light passes through an untreated roof prism.
