Pulsar Proton XQ30 Thermal Imaging Monocular Details

  • the clip-on offers 8 different colour modes which allow the user to get the perfect image regardless of the situation
  • Pulsar Proton is extremely robust which means it can handle heavy recoil
  • The device is remarkably compact and lightweight

Introduction

Pulsar Proton was introduced in 2021 and was put forward as the cheapest thermal clip-on attachment made by Pulsar. Proton is the successor of the company’s Core clip-on, which held the title of the leading thermal clip-on for many years before. Now, it is Proton’s turn to do so.

Pulsar Proton Physical Properties

Pulsar Proton sports a brand-new design compared to the previous models, which was a risky move, but it paid off, as this is Pulsar’s smallest thermal clip-on attachment, which also makes it extremely lightweight (300 g). The attachment measures 248 mm in length, 59 mm in width, and 75 mm in height. However, the improvements were not introduced only in the weight department.

Proton features 3 buttons, which are extremely simple to use, so no difficulties should occur when using the device, even in dark lighting conditions. The image capturing and recording buttons are flush with the housing, and the menu navigation button sticks out a bit, so there should be no problem finding them.

When it comes to mounting the Proton, there is a thread for the new PSP adapter, even though the reducing ring either from other manufacturers such as SmartClip or Rusan can also be used. The device is mounted on the objective and not on the ocular of the riflescope. Once the Proton is mounted, the battery is on top, and the lens is in the optical axis of the daytime scope.

The magnesium-covered clip-on attachment is waterproof (IPX7) and can be used at temperatures as low as –25 °C. It comes with a rubber eyepiece and an objective cover included, but not strapped to the device. Proton uses the APS5 battery.

Pulsar Proton Optical Properties

This model of a thermal clip-on has a sensor with a 384x288 resolution (17-μm pixel pitch), and the NETD is <40 mK, which results in better observation of the details, especially in harsh weather conditions, such as in the rain, fog, and cold environments. The display resolution is 1024x768, and it is of the AMOLED type. With this device, Pulsar offers a refresh rate of 50 Hz which results in an image without any external interruptions. The detection range of the device is 900 m, and the focus is fixed at 100 m.

Multimedia

By clicking on the black button on the left side of the device, the user can record videos, take pictures, connect the clip-on to Wi-Fi, then connect it to a smartphone, and, if you have either the IOS or Android operating system, use Stream Vision app. This is one of the best applications to use, even though the competition is increasing.

The files are stored on the device’s internal memory, which has a capacity of 16 Gb. The images are stored in the .jpg format, and the videos are stored in the .mp4 format. The user can browse through images and videos, configure device settings, etc. You can also update the device firmware by using your smartphone.
