Innogun Impuls

The History of Innogun

The story of INNOGUN company began in the early 2000s when its founder Christian Scherpf, a passionate hunter and an engineer for Blaser at the time, decided to turn his hobby into a career. Leaving his job, he started his own company, laying the foundation for what INNOGUN would become. It's interesting that scope mounts weren't the first products manufactured by the company. Christian’s initial focus was on developing a double-barrel combination rifle, which made its public debut in 2010 at the IWA fair in Nuremberg. After the introduction, the team at INNOGUN dedicated time to refining the product and conducting further testing and improvements.

Max, Christian's nephew, started contributing to the company around this period as well. As the rifle was being developed, Christian and Max began to think about the possibility of making their own mounting systems to go along with their weapons. By 2011, they had patented an innovative locking mechanism and created their first mounting solution for their firearms.

In 2012, they established a separate trademark dedicated solely to mounting solution systems, giving it the name INNOMOUNT. Over time, the mount business began to grow, and seeing the potential, they decided to shift their primary focus to the development of mounting systems and eventually stopped producing guns altogether.

With the rising popularity of their mounting solutions, the company has expanded significantly and has 28 dealers in Europe, along with dealers in New Zealand and Australia as of 2023. Along with their scope mounting systems, they initially produced two gun models, namely the INNOGUN Hybrid and INNOGUN Impuls which are no longer available for sale.

Innogun Impuls Rifle Review

Innogun Impuls is currently the only rifle model produced by INNOGUN alongside the Hybrid. It is designed similarly, but only features a single barrel for use with standard rifle cartridges. On the forend, there is a repeating, pump-action-like system that allows for quick and safe follow-up shots as the hand never really leaves the forearm when repeating. The rifle has a modular construction which enables fast disassembly and reassembly only using a few basic tools.

The rifle accepts a detachable magazine that can hold 3 or 5 rounds. The rifle comes with a manual cocking lever positioned behind the receiver, just above the handle which requires a forward push using the thumb to cock the rifle. During the repeating process, the cocking slide remains in the cocked position, meaning the weapon is immediately ready to fire again. A double-row rotating head bolt with six lugs locks directly into the barrel. This achieves a high level of security and reliability.

All INNOGUN models, including the Impuls, are fitted with a unique scope mounting surface on top of the receiver, specifically designed to accept the INNOMOUNT mounting systems which guarantees 100% repeatability. The surface consists of two flat plates that accept mount clamps on the sides, along with two recoil notches on the inner sides. Like the Hybrid, the Impuls comes equipped with iron sights and has a rubber recoil pad preinstalled on the rear end of the stock. The company ceased gun production to concentrate on scope mounts, resulting in both the INNOGUN Hybrid and INNOGUN Impuls models being discontinued from sale.

Repeatable mounts take all advantages of detachable mounts to a new level. All the advantages of detachable mounts, which are:

  • Detachable mounts offer possibility to use multiple scopes on one rifle,
  • enable easy transportation of the scope and the rifle separately,
  • in an emergency if the scope fails you can immediately detach it and use iron sights are upgraded with,
  • 100% repeatability, which means that you zero all your scopes only once and then you can use them on one rifle in any combination you prefer and as many times as you wish.

Such mounts are ideal for hunting rifles, where you can use the same rifles with different optics on many different types of hunts. The perfect combination of different optics on one rifle can be described in this fashion:

  • Red dot sight or wide angle riflescope for driven hunts,
  • 1.5-6x42 or similar for stalking,
  • 3-12x56 for low light hunting.

You can add as many different optics to this setup as you wish, since this is the main concept of repeatable mounts. Easy transportation of optics and rifle separately is only an additional bonus.

There are however many different types of repeatable mounts, of which the most common are:

There are also many other similar repeating mounts.
