The History of Henry

Henry Repeating Arms, an American firearms company, was founded in 1996 by Louis & Anthony Imperato. The company's name pays tribute to Benjamin Tyler Henry, the inventor of the first repeating lever-action rifle. Their initial product was the Henry model H001, a lever-action rifle chambered for a .22 rimfire cartridge which set the tone for Henry's focus on lever-action rifles, a tradition they would continue to build upon.

Over the years, Henry expanded its portfolio, selling more than 1 million of the H001 models and introducing a variety of other firearms. This includes the renowned Henry Golden Boy, the Big Boy and Long Ranger series for hunting and defense, the US Survival AR-7, Mini Bolt, tribute and Boy Scout editions, single-shot rifles, and shotguns in various calibers, as well as the Side-Gate lever-action rifle.

Today, in 2023, Henry Repeating Arms employs over 600 people and manufactures more than 300,000 rifles per year. With factories located in Bayonne, New Jersey, and Ladysmith, Wisconsin, the company continues to focus primarily on producing lever-action rifles in both centerfire and rimfire cartridges along with many additional firearm options. Anthony Imperato serves as the CEO and Founder, guiding the company from its headquarters in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Henry H012 Rifle Review

Along with many lever action rifles Henry released over the years, they also presented the Henry Big Boy models marketed as H006 and H012. Except for a few minor details, including the action material, stock checkering and different buttplates, the core structural elements of the rifles are the same.

Henry Big Boy H012 can be chambered for .357 Mag., .38 Spl., .327 Fed. Mag., .32 H&R Mag., .41 Rem. Mag., .44 Mag. and .45 Colt calibers. Contrary to the H006, the H012 version of the Big Boy comes with a blued steel receiver instead of polished brass so it is a tad lighter. Instead of a brass plate, the H012 features a standard rubber recoil pad and comes with a checkered stock made of American Walnut. Otherwise, the rifle is mostly the same as the H006. It is equipped with a 508 mm (20-inch) blued steel barrel. The cartridges are ejected from the side of the receiver, not the top so the upper side of the receiver can be installed with optics using the three drilled and tapped holes. The rifle also has a brass bead front sight and a rear semi-buckhorn sight that can be adjusted for elevation and windage.

The H012 has a patented transfer bar safety mechanism. If the hammer is fully cocked and moved accidentally by something other than pulling the trigger, the gun won't fire. In addition, if the hammer is accidentally released before being fully cocked, the weapon will not fire. The detachable feed tube that can hold up to 10 rounds contains both the spring and cartridge follower in place of the side aperture used to load the tubular magazine.
