Kowa BD 8x32 Details

Weighing just 560g and just over 12 cm long, these mid-sized 8x32 Kowa BD binoculars are ideal for the birder, general wildlife observer or outdoor enthusiast looking for an instrument that is a little smaller and more lightweight than your typical 8x42.
Made in Japan, the fully multi-coated optical system helps transmit as much of the captured light as possible, which in combination with a reasonably sized 4mm exit pupil helps maintain a good quality image and a decent low light performance.
At 131 meters wide when measured at a distance of 1000 meters, the field of view is nice and wide, making it much easier to locate and then follow any fast moving action, which will please most birders, wildlife and sports enthusiasts.
The minimum focal distance of 1.8 meters is also very good and thus will also satisfy the needs of those wishing to study butterflies, flowers or even birds at very close range.
With a wide interpupillary distance range and small easy to handle body makes these a good choice for both adults and older children who often have more closely set eyes.

About Kowa BD 25 Binoculars

The smallest Kowa series BD 25 offers two pocket-sized models with 8x25 and 10x25 configuration. This affordable hand-friendly series made in Japan can be easily stored into pockets and gives you perfect visual-experience as a companion when hiking, traveling, skiing, birdwatching and when visiting sports events or concerts. The body of this little BD25’s is ultra-compact and lightweight but still offers the high-quality optics of the bigger models. They are multi-coated with special C3 coating on lenses and prism surfaces for clear and bright view-through. They are also fully waterproof and fog-proof due to nitrogen gas filling that allows you to take them with you even during heavy rain or snow.

Basic Features

Kowa BD 25 series offers the smallest binoculars on the market at the moment that can be slightly folded together in the center to easily store them into pockets. Lightweight body of only 300 grams, is comfortable enough to carry around for longer periods of time without fatiguing. They are also hand-friendly for smaller children. The construction is enclosed in rubber armouring that helps to protect them against impacts, making them shock-proof. Tight seals block the water or dust from the outside. The impervious construction is also filled with dry nitrogen gas so they won’t fog inside and the clear viewing will never be compromised. BD 25 binoculars are equipped with central focusing mechanism which is quite aggressive and thus allows you to make proper adjustments really quickly. On the right barrel lies a diopter ring that helps you eliminate differences in eyesight. These small binoculars also offer great solutions for those wearing glasses since they come with twistable eyecups to make proper eye-relief. The eyecups are also softly rubberized so they feel extremely comfortable when pressed against the face, which classical foldable eyecups don’t offer.

Optical Properties

The pocket size binoculars are usually suitable for travelershikers and sports events observers, but are also perfect for different outdoor activities in the nature, such as butterfly hunting as these binoculars offer stunning close focusing distance (1.8 m) to open your eyes to the scenery up close. The smallest BD 25 series is multi-coated which means that the lenses have many layers of special C3 coatings applied on them. This optical technology helps to eliminate glaring and chromatic aberration to allow you to see clearly in different light conditions. Together with phase correction, these pocket binoculars offer incredibly lifelike images, bright, colorful and with powerful contrast. In terms of compactly sized binoculars, these are definitely worth having.

Excellent Optics. You won't be disappointed! By

I got these binoculars (pre-owned) as a gift. The optics are excellent. Even in the worst lighting conditions, when there is a strong backlight in the evening sky, and looking towards the setting sun, there is very little chromatic aberration. In typical viewing situations, there is none. The barrels provide a pure black circle surrounding your view, so there is no light distraction edging around your view, still providing a field of view that is generous. The focus knob allows you to dial in to your intended object with phenomenal precision! Even objects just a few of inches away farther or closer are filtered o whether far out in the field or at close focus. I found this to be its biggest advantage over other binoculars. Close focus is about 5 1/2 feet-excellent for insect watching. The only reason I'm not giving it full 5 stars is that there are 8x30ish very good binoculars on the market these days that are much lighter (as light as 16 oz.) and less bulky. I think these KOWA binoculars are 22 oz. However, I tried two very good 8x30ish highly regarded binoculars and neither had quite the optical quality as these KOWA binoculars. These binoculars have about the same bulk, weight and nearly everything the same (at least on paper) as the Zeiss Conquest 8x32, which I know are excellent binoculars. But I wasn't able to compare these KOWA 8x32 binoculars directly with the Zeiss Conquest 8x32.
