In the last couple of years, Ranger riflescopes have often been compared with the similarly-priced Zeiss Conquest V4 \u2013 these two series have <strong>dominated the price class of around 1000 \u20ac<\/strong> in the field <strong>of hunting riflescopes<\/strong>. Steiner\u2019s competitors have struggled trying to match the performance of their riflescopes to the Ranger series and only a few managed to release a riflescope this popular at the 1000 \u20ac price point. After 6 years, the time was high for the introduction of the second generation \u2013 here it is, the <strong>Steiner Ranger 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14493\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14493\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14493 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Ranger-4_009.png\" alt=\"Steiner Ranger 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"625\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Steiner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Model Range<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Configuration-wise, some models are the same as that of the first generation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/int\/steiner-ranger-1-4x24.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1\u20134&#215;24<\/a><\/strong>, designed for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/riflescopes-for-driven-hunts-optics-trade-debates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">driven hunting<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/int\/steiner-ranger-2-5-10x50.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2.5\u201310&#215;50<\/a><\/strong>, an <strong>all-rounder<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/int\/steiner-ranger-3-12x56.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3\u201312&#215;56<\/a><\/strong>, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/low-light-riflescopes-optics-trade-debates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">low-light specialist<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14495\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14495 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Steiner-Ranger-4-24-copy.png\" alt=\"Steiner Ranger 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steiner Ranger 4<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 4\u201316&#215;56 model has been replaced with a <strong>new one<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/int\/steiner-ranger-4-6-24x56.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">6\u201324&#215;56<\/a><\/strong>, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/long-range-optics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-range hunting scope<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lately, the 6\u201324x magnification range has been gaining in popularity among hunters, so we are looking forward to this model hitting the shelves. This is the only model in the Ranger 4 series to feature an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/parallax-adjustment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adjustable parallax<\/a> (50 m to infinity)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Improved mechanics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steiner paid attention to the smallest details with Ranger 4. The <strong>chassis <\/strong>is in black still but is <strong>a tad glossier<\/strong> compared to the previous generation. This is due to the <strong>scratch-resistant hard anodizing<\/strong> that covers the body of the riflescope. The <strong>magnification and the diopter ring move smoother<\/strong>, allowing for finer adjustments. The <strong>diopter now has +\/- marks<\/strong> on it. The <strong>clicks <\/strong>on the turrets are <strong>further apart and produce crisper sounds<\/strong>. The same goes for the elevation adjustment turret. Those who frequently wear gloves while shooting will be especially fond of the mechanical upgrades. Steiner has gone for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/the-mounting-of-nv-thermal-riflescope-clip-ons-outer-objective-diameter-chart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more conventional outer objective diameters<\/a><\/strong> of their scopes. The new 3\u201312&#215;56, for example, has a <strong>64mm objective diameter <\/strong>compared to the 63.5mm objective diameter of the previous generation. This makes finding a suitable adapter for NV &amp; thermal clip-on mounting an easier task. The new models are slightly longer than the old ones.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14496\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14496\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14496\" src=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Ranger-4_002.png\" alt=\"Steiner Ranger 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Steiner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steiner devices are known for their ruggedness and the new Ranger 4 is no exception. The construction can <strong>withstand<\/strong> an impact <strong>up to 500 G<\/strong> without problems. The interior is <strong>filled with dry Nitrogen <\/strong>to prevent internal fogging at low temperatures \u2013 you can even use it in extremely cold environment (\u201325 \u00b0C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New reticle design<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steiner decided to <strong>redesign<\/strong> their popular <strong>4A-I reticle<\/strong>. The lines used to intersect in the middle, and the illuminated dot appeared at the intersection when the illumination was turned on; they replaced the intersection in the middle with<strong> a fine dot<\/strong>, adding a small gap between it and the lines. When the illumination is turned on, the <strong>dot in the centre illuminates<\/strong>. Some will be fond of this new design, others not that much.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14494\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14494\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14494\" src=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Steiner-Ranger-4-15-copy.png\" alt=\"Steiner Ranger 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steiner Ranger 4 1\u20134&#215;24<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Any optical improvements?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most noticeable upgrade has to do with the <strong>field of view<\/strong>, which has been made <strong>wider<\/strong>. Ranger 4 boasts a <strong>slightly higher light transmission rate<\/strong> than the previous models, which come in handy especially with the low-light specialist 3\u201312&#215;56.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The option of rail mounting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of the models, namely the <strong>1\u20134&#215;24 and 3\u201312&#215;56<\/strong>, are going to be <strong>available with a <a href=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/zeiss-zm-vm-rifle-scope-mounting-rail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zeiss ZM\/VM rail mount<\/a><\/strong> later in the year. Rail mounting is advantageous over ring mounting in various ways, and we are glad that Steiner has announced their release. The rail models are going to be <strong>slightly more expensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14498\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14498\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14498\" src=\"https:\/\/optics-info.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Ranger-4_008.png\" alt=\"Steiner Ranger 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14498\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Steiner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With all the upgrades, Steiner has <strong>cemented their position<\/strong> among the <strong>leading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/riflescope-the-shooters-aid-for-more-accurate-shots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hunting riflescopes<\/a><\/strong> <strong>manufacturers <\/strong>in the price point around 1000 \u20ac. If you have a budget of 1000\u20131200 \u20ac and want to get your money\u2019s worth, give Ranger 4 series a try.
