They did a complete <strong>makeover of their brand look<\/strong> two years ago and have been launching innovative devices ever since. They\u2019ve introduced their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D3sQ2Tgrnso\">first-ever red dot<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3X-mhXOEDLA\">LRF-binoculars<\/a>, etc. This year, they\u2019ve brought two new optical devices to <a href=\"https:\/\/shotshow.org\/\">Shot Show<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/optics-info.com\/kahles-k18i\/\">K18i<\/a>, a wide-angle riflescope, and Helia RF-M, a rangefinding monocular.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6634\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6634\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6634\" src=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kahles-booth-at-Shot-Show-2020.jpg\" alt=\"Kahles' booth at Shot Show 2020\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6634\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kahles&#8217; booth at Shot Show 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>New features<\/h2>\n<p>Helia RF-M is Kahles\u2019 first-ever <strong>LRF-monocular<\/strong>, so we were eager to look at its specs. It features an industry-standard <strong>7x magnification<\/strong> (<strong>117 m of the field of view<\/strong> at 100 m), with the objective lens measuring 25 mm in diameter. Kahles went for an <strong>ergonomic design<\/strong> for <strong>optimal comfort<\/strong>, adding rubberized lines on top for <strong>a great grip<\/strong>. This is the first device from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/manufacturer-kahles.html\">Kahles<\/a> that clearly displays the new look of the brand, featuring a <strong>vibrant<\/strong>, <strong>orange-coloured<\/strong> line on its upper part. With <strong>214 grams<\/strong> (battery included), it weighs roughly the same as most of its competition. It measures 102 mm in length, 78 mm in height and 37 mm in width.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6637\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6637\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6637\" src=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kahles-Helia-RF-M-3.jpg\" alt=\"Kahles Helia RF-M\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6637\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kahles Helia RF-M<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kahles says that their target audience for this device are <strong>hunters<\/strong>. The maximum distance that the rangefinder can display is <strong>2000 m<\/strong> (in optimal conditions and when aimed at highly reflective objects), while the minimum distance is 10 m. The user can select whether the distance displayed is in <strong>meters or yards<\/strong>. The brightness of the <strong>LED-display<\/strong> can be set to<strong> 5 intensity levels<\/strong> to match the ambient lighting. The duration from the click of the button to the distance display is approx. 1 second.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6638\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6638\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kahles-Helia-RF-M-4.jpg\" alt=\"Kahles Helia RF-M\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6638\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kahles Helia RF-M<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Those who perform plenty of inclined shots will be happy to learn that Helia RF-M has an <strong>EAC-function<\/strong> (Enhanced Angle Compensation) \u2013 the device can display the <strong>angle compensated distance<\/strong> next to the standard, linear distance measurement. At Kahles\u2019 booth, I learned that <strong>4000 measurements<\/strong> can be done with a single <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_battery_sizes#CR2\"><strong>CR2 battery<\/strong><\/a> (low temperature and increased intensity of the LED-display decrease this number). The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KtJh8k5uHAU\">Scan mode<\/a> is included for the convenient ranging of moving targets. Helia RF-M also features a <strong>temperature<\/strong> and <strong>air pressure sensor<\/strong>. For undisturbed use during the colder times of the year, Helia RF-M is <strong>filled with nitrogen<\/strong> \u2013 no bothersome internal fogging will occur. Helia RF-M provides the hunter with handy features, including the calculation of the angle displayed distance, but you will have to look elsewhere if you seek an advanced ballistic calculator. Those who want it will have to wait until<strong> April 2020<\/strong> when it is going to be made available.
