Carl Gustaf, originally gearing up to release the CG 2000, delayed its production when the Swedish Armed Forces placed a large order for the Kulspruta 58. During this time, they acquired rights to import the Sauer model 80 as the Carl Gustaf 3000 and the Sauer model 200 as the Carl Gustaf 4000, assembling stocks and barrels in Sweden with actions made in Germany. The Carl Gustaf 2000 production resumed at the turn of the century, resulting in two generations of the rifle: the early MKI and the updated MKII, available in both long and short action lengths.

These rifles may have different B distances from the Carl Gustaf 2000 but share other critical mounting parameters like A and C distances, radiuses, and BHU.
