\nnew LEICA PINMASTER.<\/span>
\nThe LEICA PINMASTER sends out pulses of laser light,<\/span>
\nwhich are in the infrared wavelength, harmless and<\/span>
\ninvisible to the naked eye. Some of these pulses are<\/span>
\nreflected back. The built-in microprocessor calculates<\/span>
\nthe object distance from these reflected signals.<\/span>
\nThe LEICA PINMASTER is equipped with a first target<\/span>
\nlogic specially developed for golf and a scanning<\/span>
\nmode. This greatly simplifies measuring the distance<\/span>
\nto the flag.<\/span>
\nThe LEICA PINMASTER is equipped with superb<\/span>
\n7x-magnification optics, which enable good targeting<\/span>

Push the smaller loop through the eyelet (4) on the<\/span>
\nhousing of the LEICA PINMASTER.<\/span>
\nThen, thread the longer loop through the smaller<\/span>
\nloop and pull it tight so that the carry<\/span><\/p>\n

Inserting and changing the battery<\/span><\/h3>\n

The LEICA PINMASTER is supplied with power by one<\/span>
\n3 Volt lithium cell (e.g. Duracell DL CR 2, Ucar CR 2,<\/span>
\nVarta CR 2, or other CR 2<\/span>
\ntypes).<\/span>
\n1. Open the battery compartment (7) cover (6) by<\/span>
\nturning it anticlockwise.<\/span>
\n2. Insert the battery with its positive contact facing<\/span>
\nforwards (as marked in the battery compartment).<\/span>
\n3. Close the cover again by turning it clockwise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notes:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Battery performance suffers in the cold<\/span>
\n\u2022 There-fore, at low temperatures, it is a good idea to<\/span>
\nkeep the LEICA PINMASTER in an inside pocket<\/span>
\n(close to the body) and fitted with a fresh<\/span>
\nbattery.<\/span>
\n\u2022 If the LEICA PINMASTER is not going to be used<\/span>
\nfor a long time, the battery should be removed.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Batteries should be stored in a cool dry place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attention:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Batteries should never be put in a fire, heated,<\/span>
\nrecharged, disassembled, or broken apart.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Used batteries may not be disposed of as normal household waste as they contain hazardous<\/span>

\nTo ensure that they are properly recycled, they<\/span>

Battery charge level<\/span><\/h3>\n

A flat battery is indicated by the flashing distance<\/span>
\ndisplay and the target mark. Over 100 further<\/span>
\nmeasurements (at a progressively diminishing range)<\/span>
\ncan be taken after the display first starts to flash.<\/span><\/p>\n

use with and without glasses<\/span><\/h3>\n

If you are not wearing glasses, leave the rubber<\/span>
\neyecup (3) folded up, as it comes (Figure a). This<\/span>
\nposition gives the correct distance between the eye<\/span>
\nand the LEIca PINmaSTEr.<\/span>
\nWhen viewing with glasses, fold down the eyecup<\/span>
\n(Figure B).<\/span><\/p>\n

diopter compensation<\/span><\/h3>\n

The diopter compensator allows you to adjust the<\/span>
\nsharpness of the target mark to suit you best. Simply<\/span>
\ntarget the Leica PINmaSTEr on some far away object<\/span>
\nand turn the eyecup (3) until the target mark is as<\/span>
\nsharp as possible. The target mark can be seen by<\/span>
\npressing the main button (2). The degree of compensation can be read off the \u201c+\u201d or \u201c\u2013\u201d scale (3a) on<\/span>
\nthe eyecup.<\/span>
\ncompensation within the range of \u00b13.5 diopters is<\/span>
\npossible.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Setting the unit of measure<\/span><\/h3>\n

The LEICA PINMASTERcan be set to meters or yards,<\/span>
\nthe more commonly used unit in the USA.<\/span><\/p>\n

Setting:<\/span><\/strong>
\n1. Briefly press (<3s) the main button (2).<\/span>
\n\u2022 The target mark appears.<\/span>
\n2. Press and hold (\u22653s) the secondary button (1).<\/span>
\n\u2022 EU.US appears below the target mark.<\/span>
\n3. Briefly press the main button.<\/span>
\n\u2022 EU disappears, the target mark and US continue<\/span>
\nto flash.<\/span>
\n4. Select your preferred units of measure by (repeatedly) pressing the secondary button. US stands for<\/span>
\nthe unit yards, EU for meters.<\/span>
\n\u2022 The respective displays continue to flash.<\/span>
\n5. Save your setting by briefly pressing the main<\/span>
\nbutton.<\/span>
\n\u2022 The saved setting and the target mark light up<\/span>
\ncontinuously for 2 seconds for confirmation and<\/span>
\nthen disappear.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notes:<\/span><\/strong>
\n\u2022 The current setting can always be seen in the<\/span>
\ndisplay – if meters are selected, a dot appears to<\/span>
\nthe bottom right of the target mark.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Concerning the setting process: The displays<\/span>
\ndisappear 3 seconds after you last press one of<\/span>
\nthe two buttons. The previously saved setting is<\/span>
\nretained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Distance measurement<\/span><\/h3>\n

To measure the distance to an object, it must be<\/span>
\nperfectly targeted. To do this, activate the target mark<\/span>
\nby pressing the main button (2) once. The target mark<\/span>
\nremains lit for about 4 seconds after letting the main<\/span>
\nbutton go. If the button is kept pressed, the target<\/span>
\nmark remains lit.<\/span>
\nWhile the target mark is lit, aim the LEICA PINMASTER at the object and press the main button a second<\/span>
\ntime; the distance is then measured and displayed. The<\/span>
\ntarget mark disappears briefly during the<\/span>
\nmeasurement. A new measurement can be made at<\/span>
\nany time, as long as the target mark is lit, by pressing<\/span>
\nthe main button once again. If the object is less than<\/span>
\n10 m\/11yds away, out of range, or does not provide<\/span>
\nenough reflection, then _ _ _ appears on the display.<\/span>
\nThe LEICA PINMASTER switches itself off as soon as<\/span>
\nthe display disappears.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scan mode<\/span><\/h3>\n

With the LEICA PINMASTER, continuous measurements can also be made: If the main button (2) is held<\/span>
\ndown the second time it is pressed, the unit switches<\/span>
\nto scan mode after approx. 0.5 seconds and then<\/span>
\ntakes continuous measurements. This is indicated by<\/span>
\nthe changing display: a new measured value is produced around every 0.5 seconds.<\/span>
\nScan mode is particularly practical when measuring to<\/span>
\nflagsticks or other smaller targets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note:<\/span><\/strong>
\nIn scan mode, due to the constant measurements,<\/span>
\nthe power consumption is greater than for single<\/span>
\nmeasurements.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

First target logic<\/span><\/h3>\n

The LEICA PINMASTER is equipped with first target<\/span>
\nlogic specially developed for golf, which greatly simplifies the measurement of small targets such as golf<\/span>
\nflags. If the unit records two distances in the area of<\/span>
\nthe target mark, the distance to the closer \u2013 smaller<\/span>
\n\u2013 target is displayed (A) and not that of the further,<\/span>
\nlarger object (B). This first target logic also works in<\/span>
\nconjunction with scan mode.<\/span>
\nIn the example, when going past the flagstick, the<\/span>
\nmeasured value changes from 210 meters (bushes in<\/span>
\nthe background, A\/B) to 42 meters (flagsticks).<\/span><\/p>\n

Tip for use:<\/span><\/h3>\n

Despite this function, when taking measurements for golf<\/span>
\nflags or similar small objects, you should always try to line<\/span>
\nup the target mark so that no other objects are recorded<\/span>
\nor so that these objects are at least situated a good dis<\/span>
\n-tance (minimum 15m\/50ft) away from the first target.<\/span><\/p>\n

Operating range and accuracy<\/span><\/h3>\n

The measuring accuracy of the LEICA PINMASTER is<\/span>
\nup to \u00b11 Meter\/Yard. The maximum range is achieved<\/span>
\nwith a well reflecting object and unaided visibility of<\/span>
\n10 km\/6.2 miles. The operating range is influenced by<\/span>
\nthe following factors:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Maintenance\/cleaning<\/span><\/h3>\n

Your LEICA\u2008PINMASTER does not require special<\/span>
\ncare. Any large dirt particles, such as sand, should be<\/span>
\nremoved with a soft brush or be blown off.<\/span>
\nFingerprints etc. on the lens or eyepiece can be can<\/span>
\nbe cleaned off the lenses by first moistening them<\/span>
\nwith a damp cloth and then wiping with a soft, clean<\/span>
\nchamois leather or lint-free cloth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Important:<\/span><\/strong>
\nDo not exert excessive pressure when wiping heavily<\/span>
\nsoiled lens surfaces. Although the coating is highly<\/span>
\nresistant to abrasion, sand or salt crystals can still<\/span>
\ndamage it.<\/span>
\nThe housing should be cleaned only with a damp<\/span>
\nleather. Using dry cloths can lead to an electrostatic<\/span>
\nbuild-up. Alcohol and other chemical solvents must<\/span>
\nnot be used to clean the optics or the housing.<\/span>
\nAs well as its type designation, each LEICA<\/span>
\nPINMASTER has its \u201cpersonal\u201d serial number.<\/span>
\nMake a note of this number in your documents for<\/span>
\nsecurity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nDo not open the main body under any circumstance!<\/span><\/p>\n
