Adjusting the Image Focus<\/span><\/h3>\n

Use the main focus wheel on the eyepiece to<\/span>
\nobtain crisp, sharp images of objects at varying<\/span>
\ndistances. Designed<\/span>
\nfor quick single-handed<\/span>
\noperation, simply place the<\/span>
\nthumb and forefinger on<\/span>
\nthe focus wheel and turn<\/span>
\nto move lens forward or<\/span>
\nbackward until the image is<\/span>

Adjusting the Reticle Focus<\/span><\/h3>\n

The reticle focus, located on the eyepiece next to<\/span>
\nthe eyecup, adjusts the sharpness of the reticle.<\/span>

\nwheel until reticle is as sharp<\/span>
\nas possible. Once set for a<\/span>

\n2. Attach the post unit to the Recon<\/span>
\nby threading the 1\/4×20 stud into<\/span>

When not using the tripod, fold<\/span>
\nthe post of the Uni-Daptor alongside the length of<\/span>

The Recon comes with a soft case which may<\/span>
\nbe attached to articles of gear or clothing using<\/span>
\nMOLLE straps or the built-in belt loop.<\/span><\/p>\n

This objective lens cap adds extra<\/span>
\nprotection with fast flip action.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using the Recon R\/T Reticle<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Recon reticle is based on a form of angular<\/span>
\nmeasurement called the milliradian (mrad for short).<\/span>
\nThese angular measurements allow a user to calculate<\/span>
\nranges when comparing the reticle to objects of<\/span>
\nknown dimension. The key to effective ranging<\/span>
\nusing this reticle is knowing common objects in your<\/span>
\nvicinity and their measurements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Precision Ranging with mrads<\/span><\/h3>\n

Mrad measurements are very effective for ranging<\/span>
\nusing simple formulas. Knowing the size of the<\/span>
\ntarget or a nearby object is essential to using these<\/span>
\nformulas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Be sure reticle is in focus before ranging. Using either<\/span>
\nthe vertical or horizontal mrad scale, place the reticle<\/span>
\non the target of known dimension and read the number<\/span>
\nof mrads spanned. Obtain maximum accuracy in<\/span>
\nranging by calculating exact mrad measurements\u2014try<\/span>
\nto estimate mrad measurement in 1\/10s if possible.<\/span>
\nThe Recon reticle uses both 1 and .5 mrad graduations<\/span>
\non the crosshair to help calculate fractions of mrads.<\/span>
\nFine crosshairs subtend .05 mrads.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Accurate measuring will depend on a very steady hold.<\/span>
\nBe sure to solidly brace the arms when measuring or<\/span>
\nuse a tripod mount for maximum accuracy. Once you<\/span>
\nhave an accurate mrad reading, use one of the formulas<\/span>
\nto calculate the distance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quick Ranging with Silhouettes<\/span><\/h3>\n

The silhouettes used in the Recon reticle are<\/span>
\nbased on an average 20-inch shoulder<\/span>
\nwidth and 11-inch head width. To use,<\/span>
\nsimply match the person being ranged<\/span>
\nto the closest silhouette in shape and<\/span>
\nread the indicated yardage. As before,<\/span>
\nbest accuracy will be obtained by bracing the<\/span>
\narms or using a tripod mount.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other dimensions of the silhouettes may be<\/span>
\nused to compare to objects of known dimension<\/span>
\nto obtain range estimation. In this example, a<\/span>

\nsilhouettes. Using a deer\u2019s<\/span>
\ntypical back-to-brisket<\/span>
\ndimension of 17 inches,<\/span>
\nthe 17-inch shoulder height<\/span>
\nof the silhouettes can<\/span>
\nbe used for quick range<\/span>
\nestimation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maintenance<\/span><\/h2>\n

Protect Lenses<\/span><\/p>\n

The neoprene hood protects the ocular lens<\/span>
\nfrom rain and dust when not actively viewing<\/span>
\nthrough the Recon. The Recon carry case<\/span>
\nprovides extra protection for the scope.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the optics are exposed to moisture, keep the caps off and<\/span>
\nallow the optics to dry out completely before putting them<\/span>
\nin the case for storage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep Lenses Clean<\/span><\/h3>\n

When cleaning lenses, be sure to use products,<\/span>
\nlike those in Vortex lens cleaning kits, that are<\/span>
\nspecifically designed for coated optical lenses.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Be sure to blow away any dust or grit on the<\/span>
\nlenses prior to wiping the surfaces.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Using your breath, or a very small amount of<\/span>
\nwater or pure alcohol, can help remove stubborn<\/span>
\nthings like dried water spots.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other cleaning options<\/span><\/h3>\n

Cleaning fluid and optical paper can also be used. However, you<\/span>
\nshould never use facial tissue, heavy cotton, or flannel clothing<\/span>
\non lenses\u2014these materials can scratch the lens surfaces.<\/span><\/p>\n
