Today, we are going to discuss two types of prisms that are used in binoculars.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\"><strong>Abbe Koenig<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_schmidt_pechan.html\"><strong>Schmidt Pechan<\/strong><\/a> are the two most common types of roof prisms. Roof prisms are most commonly used in binoculars. Both prisms are named after their inventors.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The first main difference is the physical length. Binoculars with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Abbe Koenig<\/a> prisms are a lot longer than the ones with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_schmidt_pechan.html\">Schmidt Pechan<\/a> prisms with the same magnification and objective lens size.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_schmidt_pechan.html\">Schmidt Pechan<\/a> prisms are produced all over the world, while there are only six manufacturers in Europe which produce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Abbe Koenig<\/a> prisms. These are<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-zeiss\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\"> Zeiss<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-docter\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Docter<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-noblex\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Noblex<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-swarovski\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Swarovski<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-leupold\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\"> Leupold<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/manufacturer-sig_sauer\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Sig Sauer<\/a> and Optolyth. They&#8217;re really hard to produce and that&#8217;s why they&#8217;re a lot more expensive than the Schmidt and Pechan prisms.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">With the higher price of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Abbe Koenig<\/a>, you gain light transmission. There is a lot less internal light reflections, which translates into a higher light-transition rate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Most binoculars that have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_abbe_koenig.html\">Abbe Koenig<\/a> lenses are in the configuration of 8&#215;56 or 10&#215;56 with a big objective lens and are meant for low-light. While binoculars with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_schmidt_pechan.html\">Schmidt Pechan<\/a> prisms are meant for everyday use and can be produced in a very compact form-factor.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Both of these prisms can be produced at the same resolution, and the same goes for the field of view.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #898989; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\">Binoculars with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optics-trade.eu\/en\/binoculars\/shopby\/prism_type-roof_schmidt_pechan.html\">Schmidt Pechan<\/a>\u00a0prisms are a lot more common and affordable.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">We would like to thank you for your time.
