Operation
Remove the objective and ocular lens cap
The lens and eyepiece are protected against dirt and damage by caps. The caps can be pushed to the side (without opening the press studs) when making observations. Alternatively, you can open one of the press studs, move the caps to the side of the body and then close the press stud again.
Extend for use
Hold the body and the ocular of the extendable telescope firmly and then pull outwards until the extension reaches its stopping point.
Adjustment of focusing
By turning the ocular you can focus any object sharply at a distance of 10 m / 33 ft to infinity. In the infinity position the little nose on the ocular is at the top.
On the ocular you find a scale for the estimation of distance. This scale is designed for easy focusing.
In order to reach best possible focusing, please proceed as follows:
- Turn the ocular for focussing completely to the left (counterclockwise).
- Now turn the ocular to the right (clockwise) until you reach sharpest image.
Turning back the eyecups (for eyeglass-wearers)
By turning back the eyecups, the eyeglass-wearer can optimally utilize the full field of view. The eyecups can be unscrewed for cleaning or replacement.
Mounting the telescope on the tripod
The tripod base has a connecting thread of 3/8˝ UNC. The inserted bush reduces the connecting thread to 1/4˝. The observation telescope thus fits on any standard tripod.
After use of the telescope
- Close it until stop.
- Screw the ocular all the way in.
- Close the lens cap and eyepiece cap again.
Maintenance and Care
On account of the functional principle of all extendable telescopes from any manufacturer, an extendable telescope never can be tight. When pulling out, air must enter into the instrument. A built-in filter protects the interior against dirt. When closing the instrument, particular attention should be paid that possibly no dirt or humidity will remain on the extension tubes. This assists the cleaning function of the built-in sealing rings. Despite these precautions, the interior may show, after long year of use, dirt on the optical surface. For such rare cases, Swarovski Optik is providing a cleaning service.
With large temperature changes, the objective may show – when pulling out the telescope – some condensation on the inside surface. Normally, such a condensation should disappear after a short while. If not, it is recommendable to pull out/push in the telescope several times at normal room temperature. This will make the condensation to disappear. If not, please consider this to be a hint for a necessary cleaning service as aforementioned.
Clean dirty lenses initially with a dust brush and then with the special lens cleaning cloth.
Please observe the following:
- Keep all glass surfaces free of oil and grease.
- Do not touch glass surfaces.
- Avoid scratching glass surfaces.
Use a soft clean cloth to remove dust and dirt adhering to metall surfaces (do not use the lens cleaning cloth!). For hard-to-remove dirt use a cloth immersed in naphtha. Please do not oil the extension tube.
Treatment when wet
If the telescope becomes wet, dry the extendable tube with a cloth. Leave to dry in its extended position and with the caps on the stay-on case open. If necessary, the entire stay-on case should be removed to help the telescope dry out.
Removal of the stay-on case
As the stay-on case size is perfectly sized to fit your telescope a slight adherenteffect between the stay-on case and the extendable telescope may occur through time. Removing the stay-on case can best be achieved by holding the telescope with one hand and pushing the extendable telescope from the eyepiece side forwards out of the stay-on case.
Lens-cleaning cloth
You can clean high sensitive lens surfaces with the enclosed special cloth made of micro-fibres. It is suitable for objective lens, ocular lens and eyeglasses. Please keep the cloth clean, as dirt can damage the lens surface. If the cloth gets dirty, it can be washed in luke-warm soapy water and air-dried. Please use it exclusively for cleaning lens surfaces!
