The Zastava M85 Mini Mauser, introduced in 1985 and not to be confused with the AK-pattern Zastava M85, is a controlled feed, bolt-action rifle that was imported to the USA under the designation Remington 799. It features a cold-forged chrome-vanadium steel barrel and a modern thumb safety on the right upper side of the receiver that locks the bolt and blocks the trigger mechanism.
The rifle is equipped with a preset trigger with an adjustable pull weight of approximately 2041 g (4.5lbs), an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate for up to five cartridges, and factory-installed hooded ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight for windage and elevation. For models chambered in .22 Hornet, a detachable magazine is provided. Additionally, the M85 offers mounting options with four drilled holes on the receiver, and users can choose between half-stock and full-stock versions.
