Introduction
Pulsar Helion XP series is an improved version of Helion XQ series. Equipped with an even bigger sensor than Helion XQ (640×480, 17µm), it comes with a better resolution and better detection. The new, big sensor also offers a wider range of view (The pixels are in a considerably greater number while the pitch stays the same – 17µm). Shape-wise and concept-wise, Helion XP is a giant step forward from Quantum XQ. It is IPX7 certified, meaning that it can withstand water immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter. Pulsar used materials of high quality for the housing, which is immediately noticed and felt upon use. Helion XP comes with a new, revolutionary battery system, which allows a quick battery swap. The battery is a part of the housing and does not endanger the device’s protection against water. While using the device, the user’s hand, tightly wrapped around the battery, heats it, which is great in winter. B-pack, one of the most outstanding innovations in the world of thermal imaging cameras, will undoubtedly improve the user experience.

Pulsar has finally entered the world of multimedia (the Quantum series was equipped with an external recording unit which was not as user friendly). Helion XP is designed so that it creates a Wi-fi network – the user can connect to it with a mobile device. Not only does Helion XP allow taking photos and recording videos over the phone or via the buttons on the device; it basically allows the control of all the device’s options through a mobile phone (changing brightness, magnification, contrast, colours of the display; switching between operation modes etc.). This innovative mobile application, called Stream Vision, is currently one of the best applications for controlling a thermal imaging camera over a mobile device on the market. It will be used to operate all Pulsar’s night optics devices. Since the device can be controlled over a mobile device, it can be installed basically anywhere (e.g. on the car) – this expands the possibility of use to a great degree.

First impressions
Pulsar Helion XP is of high quality – the image is sharp, visually perfected and offers a wide range of colours portraying levels of heat. The details can thus be clearly distinguished. The battery is brilliantly designed and the application to control the device over a mobile phone is superb (Stream Vision). It encourages the device’s user to manage it via mobile phone. The knobs on the device; however, are somewhat stiff, and the device lacks a rotating button. Pulsar compensated for the lack of this rotating button by introducing a remote control with it which can be bought extra.
Conclusion
Stream Vision, used to control the device over a mobile phone, is a great step forward by Pulsar. Pulsar Helion XP series thermal imaging cameras are definitely to be among the best devices on the market. The most outstanding quality is without a doubt their field of view which is bigger compared to that of Helion XQ devices. More details can be seen with XP than with XQ because of the sensor with better resolution. Pulsar Helion XP devices come with tons of possibilities – this is why one will have to pay top dollar to get one.
