Pulsar invests plenty of effort into research, coming up with innovations in the field of night vision and thermal imaging every year. A few days ago, they have announced a firmware update for their popular thermal imaging devices Trail, Helion, and Accolade (XQ and XP).
Major upgrades have been made on the sensor of these devices. Detection, recognition, and identification have been enhanced, lifting the experience to a whole new level. Video recording quality has also been improved, which is great news. Even the users who already own Trail, Helion, and Accolade devices will benefit from these outstanding improvements since the firmware is downloadable. Furthermore, Pulsar is promising a reduction in the power consumption of the listed devices.
On Helion and Accolade devices, the users will now be able to use the ‘Up’ button to switch between the observation modes with a short press. The long press of the ‘UP’ button will change the colour mode. The current function of this button will be transferred to the main menu.

The upgrades mentioned above will be visible in the Identification, Forest, and Rocks modes. The modes will be optimally configured, resulting in better performance in various conditions:
Forest – Optimal image in conditions of dense vegetation and low-temperature differences, the relief, vegetation, and hot objects are more clearly visible.
Rocks – Optimal display of warm objects in the presence of a large number of objects with different temperatures (sunny day, mountains or city relief) in the field of view.
Identification – Optimally depicts the details of an object when it is necessary to recognize or identify the object, works well under difficult conditions: rain, fog (possibility of more image noise, which is normal for this mode).
Here is Pulsar’s official video, showing the difference before and after the firmware update on Pulsar Helion XP:
How to get the update? Basically, you need to download the ‘Stream Vision’ app to your smartphone (Google Play or App Store) if you don’t have it yet. With this app, you can connect to your Pulsar Trail, Helion, or Accolade and upload the latest software to it.
