Pulsar is one of the fastest-growing companies in the thermal and night vision industry. Their devices are leading on the civilian market since the price/quality ratio is just great. They produce digital and analog night vision devices, and in this article, we will talk about their analog devices, since they are extremely popular among hunters, airsoft players, for observing the nature and many other activities.
Currently, Pulsar produces 2 series of devices that work with the Gen. 1 night vision technology. The Pulsar Challenger series, in which currently only 1 monocular is available – the GS 1×20. The second series is the Pulsar Edge, which consists of night vision goggles and night vision binoculars. In the Edge series 2 devices are currently available, the GS 1×20 and the GS 3.5×50.
All devices feature the Pulsar CF-Super technology, which has many improvements and advantages compared to a traditional Gen. 1 night vision tube. The CF-Super tube has a distortion-free imaging in the center and the peripheral area, the resolution is up to 20% higher, and the effective field of view is bigger because the image isn’t blurry around the center like in traditional Gen. 1 night vision devices. The difference is also that the image quality in the center and all around is very consistent – a max. 20% difference can be observed from the center and all around.
Both devices have an integrated IR Illuminator that emits light with a wavelength of 805 nm, which improves the image brightness and quality in darker areas. The Challenger GS 1×20 and the Edge GS 1×20 have a wide-angle IR illuminator, so it is possible to observe at a very close range. The Edge GS 3.5×50 binoculars have a stronger illuminator with which it’s possible to observe even at longer distances. The Edge GS devices feature a rotary button on the top used to adjust the intensity of the IR illuminator. If this isn’t enough, all devices feature a Weaver rail, so adding an additional IR illuminator is not a problem.
All devices can be mounted on a head mount, allowing you to use the device without the need of your hands. Additionally, the Challenger monocular can be mounted on the ocular of a daytime rifle scope whit a special DOS adapter, which is very popular among airsoft players.
The body of all 3 devices is made of metal and carbon-filled plastic, so they can withstand a lot of torture, moisture, and dust. The eyecups on all devices as well as the buttons on the Edge GS devices are made of rubber and are nicely positioned for comfortable viewing. The Challenger can be operated with a single CR123A battery and the Edge with 2 AAA batteries.
