Primary Arms GLx 1x Micro Prism

Every year, we visit the IWA fair, a crucial event for the sports optics industry in Europe – this year was no exception. Our marketing team explored the event, intent on finding the newest advancements. Considering Primary Arms’ esteemed reputation over the last decade in both the US and Europe, visiting their booth to explore their latest products was essential for us.

This article will concentrate on the newly launched GLx 1X Micro Prism. We were also briefed on the 1-8×24 PLx model equipped with the ACSS Nova Fiber reticle at their booth, a topic we have addressed in a separate piece.

GLx – Primary Arms’s mid-range series

Several years ago, Primary Arms organized their products into four distinct series to denote quality levels: Classic (CLx), Silver (SLx), Gold (GLx), and Platinum (PLx), with the Platinum series marking their top-tier offerings. The Gold series, positioned just below the Platinum, is recognized for its optimal balance of performance and affordability, hence its widespread popularity.

An upgraded version of the SLx Micro prism

Primary Arms’ SLx Micro Prism has been a part of their lineup for some time and has enjoyed strong sales. In response to its success, they’ve developed an upgraded version incorporating several modifications. The traditional illumination knob has been swapped for buttons, and the battery compartment is now on top, seamlessly integrated into the housing. While it maintains the Aimpoint Micro mounting standard, the footprint has been made slightly narrower, leading to a sleeker profile without any protrusions. Furthermore, the lens diameter has been increased by 3 mm over the SLx model (20 mm versus 17 mm), offering a broader view of both the target and its surroundings. As expected from a GLx model, it features upgraded glass compared to the SLx micro prism, delivering a crisper image and a near unlimited eye relief.

A great alternative to a red dot sight

Prism scopes offering 1x magnification serve as an excellent alternative to red dot sights, particularly beneficial for those with vision issues such as astigmatism. This advantage comes from their inclusion of a diopter ring and an etched reticle. Furthermore, the GLx Micro Prism is incredibly compact, mimicking a small tube sight even by appearance.

Other noteworthy features of the Primary Arms GLx 1x Micro Prism

The GLx 1x Micro Prism is equipped with a fixed mount compatible with the Picatinny Platform. Given its adherence to the Aimpoint Micro mounting standard, acquiring a quick-detachable mount from the market is straightforward. We learned that it includes 8 different mounting options within the package, primarily adjusting the height and the front-rear horizontal positioning on the firearm. Regarding illumination colors, models are available in either red or green. At present, there is only a 1x magnification model, but looking at the current offer within the SLx series, it’s reasonable to expect the introduction of models with additional magnifications, such as 3x and 5x, in the future.

Price and availability

The price for the Primary Arms GLx Micro prism is expected to be around 500 €. It is expected to hit the shelves in Q2 of 2024. For European customers, these are going to be covered with a 10-year warranty.
