Our Observations
The Nighthog Chameleon has a different approach to power on/off “button”. Instead of a regular button that you have to press, you just turn the knob on the side, which is in my opinion a very good idea. It makes it a lot easier to turn on the device, as you can hear a click when you turn the knob, and it takes less than a second.
When turning the on/off knob, the manufacturer’s logo appears after 4 and a half seconds. Next, the image appears – at approximately 6.26 seconds – which is our start-up time. We started pressing the “Zoom” button when that happened and discovered, that the device is responsive soon after the icons appear – at approximately 12.59 seconds.
This device can be powered in three different ways: either with two CR123A lithium batteries; two rechargeable CR123A li-Ion batteries or with two 16650 Li-ion batteries with the Extender. We tested the device with the Panasonic CR123 batteries and with the Extender for batteries, but the start-up time and ready-to-use times stayed the same, so it doesn’t affect it. But please note that the time might change if you use different batteries.
The device is easy to handle, and the buttons are easy to press even if you are wearing gloves.
When you’re using the battery extender, the battery cap is on a string, so you don’t lose it, but the cap swings around the device.
When turning the device off, you just simply turn the knob again, and the device shuts off.
