The Shot Show stands out as the largest and most attended event for the shooting sports, hunting, outdoor recreation, and firearm manufacturing industries, drawing a vast crowd every year. During our visit this year, we were eager to explore new innovations for 2024. Our journey led us to the Nightforce booth, where we had the opportunity to discuss with Erik their latest contribution to their product range – the Nightforce CFS 6-36×50 Configurable Field Spotting Scope.
The CFS 6-36×50 – Nightforce’s Configurable Field Spotting Scope
Upon visiting the Nightforce booth, we quickly noticed the CFS 6-36×50 due to its notable design. The scope, without the accessory cage, weighs 935 g (33 oz), which is quite light for its size. Its compact and straight form factor, measuring 358 mm (14.1 inches) in length, makes it easy to pack. The CFS offers a magnification range of 6-36, adjustable via the first of two rubberized rings, with focus adjustment on the second ring.
The magnification spectrum is particularly suited for pairing with clip-on night vision or thermal imaging devices. Additionally, the reticle’s precision adjustments can be made through the eyepiece diopter. The twist-out eyecup allows for comfortable observation both with and without glasses.
The scope features a First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle, offered in three variations: HORUS Tremor4 or the XTS, available in either MIL or MOA configurations. The Accessory Cage and s-RAP provide reliable platforms for attaching thermals, night vision, red dots, laser rangefinders, data cards, and other devices – hence the CFS marking. The cage mounts to the scope with six fasteners on the base. The CFS also has an integrated base on the bottom for tripod mounting which makes it compatible with RRS heads and clamps along with most other Arca-Swiss tripod heads.
The Contents of the Box
Inside the box, you’ll find a padded field case, an already installed adjustable eyecup, caps for both eyepiece and objective lens, a T15 Torx wrench, a fob lens cloth, and the owner’s manual. For those selecting the kit option, it also includes a spotting scope accessory cage, two M-LOK Picatinny rail segments, and a 1/8-inch Hex wrench, offering a well-rounded setup for field use.
Price and Warranty
The bare spotter, without the cage, is priced at $2950, while the kit version with the cage goes for $3100 on the US market. The scope was released on the day it was presented at the Shot Show, and it’s expected to be available in Europe by the end of February. It comes with Nightforce‘s limited lifetime transferable warranty, standard for their optics. This warranty lasts as long as the model is in production and for sale in the US. Due to European regulations, the warranty is defined in years, likely set at 10 years. We found the device’s capabilities and features impressive and are curious to see how it will be welcomed by the market.
