Mounting

Note: We strongly recommend having your scope mounted by a qualified gunsmith or professional workshop to ensure that the gun and riflescope are properly aligned.

Diopter adjustment

The purpose of the diopter adjustment is to adjust the scope to the user’s eye and compensate for variations in individual eyesight. If corrective glasses are to be worn when shooting, the diopter should be adjusted while wearing the glasses.

Additional information concerning the BDC reticle can be found on ww.minox.com/zx

Note: When making adjustments on the riflescope, please adhere to the safety rules when handling your weapon.

To adjust the focus, first turn the magnification ring to the highest magnification and turn the diopter until the reticle is sharply focused. For best results, look at a distant uniform background like an overcast sky. When looking through the scope, the reticle must appear sharply focused immediately. Even though the eye can compensate for a suboptimal focus for some time, this results in eye fatigue after prolonged use.

To adjust the focus on the ZX5 / ZX5i 1-5×24, set the power at 1x before adjusting the diopter in order to achieve an optimal setting for a fast target acquisition with both eyes open. Look at a target in the distance (>50 m) with both eyes open – one eye looking at the target through the scope. Turn the diopter until both images are the same size and in sharp focus. If the settings are correct, you should have an undisturbed binocular image.

Adjusting the magnification

Turn the magnification ring (7) at the front of the eyepiece to your desired magnification. Turning clockwise with increase the power and counter-clockwise will decrease the power.

Parallax adjustment

Parallax is the visible movement of the reticle over the target image. This occurs when the observing eye moves vertically or horizontally behind the riflescope and the scope has not yet been adjusted parallax-free to the target distance. This movement is also called parallax error and causes changes in point of impact.

The parallax adjustment brings the target image into the same focal plane as the reticle. The target image as seen by the shooter is brought into focus and hereby eliminates parallax errors. To determine if the riflescope is parallax-free at the desired distance, move your head up and down, or from side to side while looking at the target through the riflescope. If the reticle appears to be moving while doing this (make sure that the weapon is absolutely steady), the parallax adjustment has not been set at the desired distance and needs to be readjusted.

If the image is still out of focus even though the parallax adjustment has been properly set, check the diopter setting.

Due to thermal expansion of the riflescope and varying atmospheric conditions, the markings on the parallax compensation cannot be accurate under all circumstances. They should be viewed as a means of rough orientation.

If high precision is required, the parallax should always be adjusted under the current conditions using the procedure described above.

Reticle adjustment

Note: If the riflescope has been properly mounted, only minimal adjustments should be required while zeroing your rifle. Large deviations are an indication of improper mounting.

To zero your rifle, first remove the caps on the windage and elevation knobs. You will see adjustable knobs with a scale and markings for the zero position. Each click and increment on the scale changes the point of impact by 1/4 MOA (7.5 mm/100 m) and 1/8 MOA (3.7 mm/100 m) with the ZX5 5-25×50 and ZX5 5-25×56. Turning the knobs clockwise will change the point of impact down
and to the left respectively. Turning the knobs counterclockwise will change the point of impact up and to the right respectively.

When you have reached the desired settings, loosen the screw on the adjustment knobs, lift and turn the knobs to the zero position and tighten the screws again.

Reticle illumination

Inserting the battery

Your MINOX ZX5i riflescope is equipped with an illuminated reticle and is powered by a CR 2032 battery, which is included in the scope of delivery. Looking towards the front of the riflescope, the illumination unit can be found on the left of the main tube (Fig. 2).

1. The battery compartment is covered by a screw cap. To replace the battery, unscrew the cap clockwise with a coin or a similarly sized object. To remove the battery, press the edge of the battery with your fingernail until it is released. When inserting the new battery, the negative pole must be towards the riflescope. Replace the cap and turn counter-clockwise until tight. Use only new and undamaged CR 2032 batteries from well known brands.

Adjusting the illumination

Turning the reticle illumination on and off can be accomplished using the illumination adjustment ring (Fig. 2). The illumination is deactivated if the 0 is aligned with the white dot on the tube (Fig. 2). Turn the ring to level 1 to activate the illumination of the reticle at the lowest intensity. The brightness adjustment is continuous, with numbers on the adjustment ring to facilitate setting a desired brightness level without having to look through the scope.

To increase battery life, the electronics in the ZX5i offer the following automatic shutdown functions:

– Laying the weapon on its side (at an angle of 45° or more) or putting it into a vertical position (at an angle of 75° or more) will automatically deactivate the reticle illumination. Taking the weapon up again within 2 hours will automatically reactivate the reticle illumination. If the weapon remains on its side or in a vertical position for more than two hours, the reticle illumination needs to be adjusted in order to turn it on again.

– After two hours without adjusting the brightness, the reticle illumination switches off. Adjusting the brightness setting will switch it on again.

The illumination can be programmed to pe form at two illumination curves. To set a darker curve, please contact the MINOX customer service:

Note:
– Please use only CR 2032, 3 V Lithium batteries.
– To avoid leakage, please remove the battery if the scope will not be used over a longer period of time.

Changing the battery

Turn the reticle illumination off (brightness level to 0).

Note: This device contains a disposable battery. Please dispose the battery at a designated battery collection point. Further information can be obtained in your community or at the retailer where you purchased your riflescope.

Care and Maintenance

MINOX has engineered extraordinary durability into every riflescope we build. However, they are still precision optical instruments and reasonable care should be taken to ensure optimal performance. Do not disassemble your scope in any way as this could damage the seal which makes the scope water- and fog-proof. In the field, protect your scope from excessive impact.

When cleaning your weapon, cover the lenses of your scope to prevent accidental contact with cleaning solutions. Clean the scope periodically by wiping the housing with a clean soft cloth.

Troubleshooting

Accuracy problems

One of the most common causes for inaccuracy (excessively large groups, double groups, stringing or flyers) is caused by improper mounting of the riflescope. Check all mounting components for tightness. Furthermore, make sure that the barrel is free of oil, cleaning agents and excessive fouling by powder residue and projectile debris. Use ammunition from the same manufacturer and lot number, and place the weapon on a solid rest such as a sandbag.

If accuracy problems should persist, please contact a qualified gunsmith to have your weapon checked.

Fogging

Internal lens fogging is the result of broken seals, allowing moisture to enter the scope. If the seal has failed under normal use, MINOX will repair or replace the scope in accordance with the MINOX warranty terms. However, fogging is most commonly the result of scope disassembly, which is not covered by the MINOX warranty. With any internal fogging, return the scope to your authorized MINOX dealer or the MINOX service center for repair.

External lens surface fogging is a common problem under the right temperature and humidity conditions. It cannot be avoided. Anti-fogging solutions may offer some relief, but simply wiping with a clean cloth is the most effective treatment. Avoid breathing on the eyepiece lens in cold weather.
