During our visit to IWA 2024, an exhibition that attracts thousands involved in the firearms industry annually, we made a point to explore Meopta’s booth. As specialists in sports optics, we’re keen to stay informed about new products from leading optics manufacturers. At Meopta’s stand, we were briefed on their upcoming Meostar R series, which we’ll discuss in this article.
We were also presented with the DF Tm4, an innovative dot sight in the prototype stage – for additional details, please see our blog post dedicated to it.
The Meostar R series serves as a successor to the Meostar R1 series, which has been discontinued for some time, positioning it as Meopta’s entry-level series of riflescopes fully produced in the Czech Republic, in contrast to the more costly Meostar 2 in their range.
Model range
At the IWA 2024 exhibition, we were introduced to three models within the Meostar R series:
- 1-6×24, a wide-angle model designed for driven hunts
- 2.5-15×50, versatile and suitable for a variety of hunting scenarios
- 4-24×56, optimized for long-range hunting
The 1-6×24 and 2.5-15×50 models are equipped with the 4C reticle, an adaptation of the renowned German 4 reticle. Meanwhile, the 4-24×56 model, aimed at long-range hunters, is outfitted with the MOA-MR reticle, which includes several holdovers to meet the specific requirements of long-range hunting.
Other features of the Meopta Meostar R
These riflescopes feature a standard hunting scope tube diameter of 30 mm and come with capped turrets. The wide-angle model is designed with parallax fixed at 100 meters, while the other two models include a parallax adjustment knob.
Illumination settings can be adjusted across 6 levels. The highest setting does not provide sufficient brightness for use in strong daylight, as the illumination remains somewhat dim. Each intensity level has an off switch positioned between settings, allowing for the quick deactivation of the illumination, regardless of the current level.
In terms of design, compared to the Meostar R1 series, these new models sport a more contemporary look with smoother detailing.
Prices
The pricing for these riflescopes ranges from 900 € to 1100 €, varying by model. Each comes with a 10-year warranty, underscoring Meopta‘s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. It’s commendable to observe Meopta’s dedication to producing optics in the Czech Republic, providing an excellent option for those in search of European-manufactured riflescopes that are accessible without breaking the bank.
