At the IWA 2024 exhibition, a notable event that annually gathers enthusiasts and professionals from the firearms industry, we took the opportunity to visit Meopta‘s booth. As experts in sports optics, it’s our priority to stay updated on the latest products from renowned optics brands.

At the Meopta booth, our attention was first drawn to the DF Tm4, an innovative dot sight still in the prototype stage. This article will delve into the details of this groundbreaking development. In addition to the DF Tm4, we were given an overview of the upcoming Meostar R series, which is covered in a separate article on this blog.

 What is the MeoDot DF Tm4 about?

The majority of red dot sights available in the market are reflex types, which operate by projecting an LED light beam onto a lens that then reflects back into the user’s eye. Holographic red dot sights, which use a hologram as the reticle, are less common, with EOTech being the primary manufacturer of this technology. The MeoDot DF Tm4 stands apart from both these categories, marking its introduction as a significant innovation. Unlike reflex or holographic sights, it incorporates a customizable OLED display, distinguishing it from the conventional dot sights and setting a new benchmark in the field.

Customizable display

The OLED technology powering the red dot sight offers exceptional customizability. Users are not only provided with a selection of preset reticles but also have the unique opportunity to design their reticles entirely according to their preferences. This feature allows for swift switching between reticles, adding remarkable versatility to the device. For instance, users can tailor reticles to match the ballistic trajectories of different types of ammunition. Essentially, the sight’s memory capacity supports the upload of an unlimited number of reticles.

Moreover, the OLED display operates flawlessly, ensuring that the reticles are displayed with absolute clarity. This clarity is maintained even when the reticles are composed of the smallest dots, demonstrating the high resolution and precision of the display technology.

Battery type

The dot sight is powered by a CR123 battery. Given its current prototype status, determining the exact battery life is challenging. However, we were informed that following future updates, the expected battery life could reach up to 440 hours. This is an impressive figure, especially considering the wide range of functionalities the device offers. The prototype we examined at the booth featured finely adjustable illumination intensity, allowing users to dim the display for low-light conditions or enhance it for visibility in strong daylight.

Availability and price

As the DF Tm4 remains in its prototype stage, its official launch date is yet to be finalized. However, we received indications that it might become available towards the end of this year. Pricing is another area still under consideration. While the aim is for the device to be priced at approximately 1300 €, it’s important to note that this figure could vary as further developments are made.
