Description of Leica Magnus 1.5-10×42 Rifle Scope
Leica has first shown Magnus rifle scopes to the public in 2011 and immediately gained a lot of attention. Leica Magnus scopes set some benchmark achievements and were the first Leica hunting scopes in the highest premium class of hunting optics. In 2011 and to today Magnus scopes offer one of the highest zoom ratio between hunting scopes. Leica Magnus 1.5-10×42 has a zoom ratio of 6.7x and offers the most useful magnification range for driven hunts, stalking, and occasional long-range shots. Even though no other hunting rifle scope with 42mm objective lens on the market offer such a versatile magnification range, Magnus 1.5-10×42 offers an exceptional light transmission rate exceeding 91%. Such light transmission rate is high even for rifle scopes with 4x zoom not to mention the super zoom scopes. Leica Magnus scopes were the first “super zoom” scopes with a light transmission rate above 90%.

Extraordinary optical achievements that can be seen in 1.5-10×42 model from Leica Magnus series don’t end with great zoom factor and light transmission rate but everybody immediately also notice the wide field of view of this scope. At 1.5x magnification it has an astonishing 26 m/100m field of view, the highest number among all 1.5x riflescopes currently available. Wide field of view is noticeable at all magnifications and with no tunnel effect what so ever, these scopes are very pleasant to use.
Leica left nothing to wish for at Magnus scopes and the 1.5-10×42 can also come with an advanced hunting ballistic BDC turret (100 clicks – 10 mrad of elevation) and for mounting you can choose between either ring mounting or scope with rail mounting (Zeiss ZM/VM rail standard).
Leica Magnus reticle illumination system
All Leica Magnus scopes are equipped with the same reticle illumination system that offers basic choice of daytime and low light intensity levels. Each one of the two basic modes has an option of 60 additional micro steps in intensity of the reticle illumination. All settings of illumination are controlled over one big button on the top of the eye-piece. This button also hold the standard CR2032 battery inside and can be easily operated even while wearing gloves.

Users can choose day time mode and night time mode by turning the button in clockwise or counter clockwise direction. Finer adjustments can then be made by pressing left or right side of the button (marked with + and – on the scope housing). Illumination with so many intensity levels can be set for any kind of light condition and under or over illumination can always be avoided.
The illumination system also has an automatic turn-off function in conjunction with a position sensor. If the scope is not moved for 3 hours illumination turns off so that the battery life is prolonged. Position sensor also turns off reticle illumination in Magnus riflescopes when they are tilted sideways for more than 75 degrees or when aimed straight up to the sky on down to the earth. When the rifle is back in use and in shooting position reticle illumination is instantly turn on again. With this system battery life is much longer and at the same time there is no disadvantages in use.
