1 EYECUPS

1.1 Binoculars (HELIA & HELIA RF)

KAHLES binoculars are equipped with individual twist-in eye cups. Persons without glasses can choose four different positions (depending on the model). Eyeglasses wearers, who wear eye glasses when looking trough the binoculars, turn both eye cups clock-wise until they stop.

1.2 HELIA RF-M

The same applies to the monocular rangefinder. Adjustment according to whether you wear glasses or not. Eyeglass wearers flip the rubber eyecup over. For observers without glasses or with contact lenses the rubber eyecup has to be folded-up.

2 ADJUSTMENT OF INTERPUPILLARY DISTANCE

To see a single circular image, you have to adjust the halves of the binoculars to your interpupillary distance:

  • Look through the binoculars eyepieces with both eyes.
  • Turn the binocular halves around the central axis until you don’t see any disturbing shadows and a single circular field of view is visible.

3 DIOPTRIC CORRECTION

3.1 HELIA

Close the right eye and observe a chosen object with the left eye only. Turn the focus knob until the object gets sharp. Now close the left eye or cover the left objective of the binocular and observe the same object with the right eye only. If necessary turn the diopter ring until the object gets sharp. Now your personal diopter adjustment is set.

1. Turn both dioptric correction wheels counter-clockwise until they stop.

2. First look through the ocular with your right eye only focusing the display. Turn the dioptric correction wheel clockwise until the display is sharply focused. Now look at an object through the right-hand eyepiece with your right eye. Then focus on it using the focusing wheel.

3. Now close your right eye (or cover the objective end of the right binocular half) and look at the same object only with your left eye. Turn the dioptric correction wheel clockwise until the object is sharply focused. Your individual dioptric correction is adjusted.

3.3 HELIA RF-M

1. Turn the diopter wheel/eyecup counter clockwise until it stops.

2. take a look with your right or left eye through the eyepiece onto the display and turn the diopter wheel / eyecup slowly clockwise, until the display is in focus.

4 FOCUSING ON BINOCULARS

By turning the focusing wheel you can focus from minimum range (see technical data on www.kahles.at) to infinity.

5 MENU (HELIA RF & HELIA RF-M)

For menu settings press the mode button for 3 seconds. Attention: This function is not available during the procedure of any distance measurement. When pressing the mode button again the next menu option is reached. Select a program by pressing the measurement button.

6 MEASUREMENT INFORMATION (HELIA RF & HELIA RF-M)

6.1 General measurement information

The following factors have an impact on the maximum measurement range:

6.2 Single measurement

The aiming mark will appear when the measurement button is pressed briefly. After the button is released, the measured range is shown on the display.

6.3 Scan measurement

Scan Mode is used to continually measure the range of moving targets. The instrument switches to Scan Mode automatically if the measurement button is held down for over 3 seconds. In Scan Mode, measurements will be taken continually until the measurement button is released.

6.4 Angle measurement

In addition to the distance measurement, the angle of your measuring position to any target can be shown on the displays upper area.

6.5 KAHLES EAC-function

Not only the distance measurement but also the KAHLES EAC-function – Enhanced Angle Compensation (patent pending) which is based on the classic Rifleman’s Rule – can be shown. While the Rifleman’s rule only provides the slant range based on pure mathematics the EAC-function also considers the different ballistics and provides you a more relevant basis. 6.6 Temperature and airpressure display (HELIA RF-M)

By briefly pressing the mode button, on the display the temperature appears for 3 seconds, then the air pressure in hPA.

7 DISPLAY INTENSITY (HELIA RF & HELIA RF-M)

There are 5 brightness levels to choose from. If the display is activated a short pressing of the mode button changes the display intensity.

8 MAINTENANCE AND CARE

We have designed all optical elements and surfaces to be easy to care for. To guarantee the optical brilliance of your binoculars over a long period of time, keep the lens surfaces free of dirt, oil and grease. To clean the lenses, please remove larger particles by blowing on the lens. For subsequent lens cleaning we recommend the use of the enclosed cleaning cloth. In the event of hard-to-remove grease spots, finger prints or dried-on drops of water, breathe slightly on the lenses or moisten them with a damp cloth and clean cautiously. Make sure that the cleaning material is always kept clean. Dirt in the cloth may cause damages to the lens coating.

8.1 Replacing the battery (HELIA RF & HELIA RF-M)

Check how much charge is left in the battery. Seeing a flashing battery symbol when the instrument is switched on indicates a low battery. From the time the low battery indicator first starts flashing, there is sufficient power for around 100 more measurements.

Replacing the battery:

Open the battery compartment cap on the central focusing (HELIA RF) or on the eyepiece (HELIARF-M). Remove the dead battery. Insert a new CR 2 battery, making sure that the poles are correctly aligned (see markings inside compartment). Use leakproof batteries only. Warning: Do not use rechargeable batteries! Finally, screw the battery cover back on.

8.2 Storage

We recommend to store the product in a dry place without excessive solar radiation and heat. If the product is wet it must be dried prior to storage.

8.3 Waste removal

WEEE/ElektroG This symbol indicates that this product must not be disposed of as household waste under the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) and national laws. This product has to be returned to a dedicated collection site. You can obtain information about collection sites for waste equipment from your local authorities or from an authorised site for the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment. Disposing of this product correctly helps to protect the environment and prevents potential damage to both the environment and human health which could occur if the products are not handled correctly.

8.4 Disposal of used batteries

Batteries must not be disposed of as household waste and you are legally obliged to return used batteries. Local facilities exist for returning used batteries free of charge (e.g. in retail outlets or at communal collection points). Batteries are labelled with a crossed-out wheeled bin and the chemical symbol of the harmful substance they contain: “Cd” for cadmium, “Hg” for mercury and “Pb” for lead. Please help us to protect the environment.

9 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Don’t look directly into the sun or into any other intense light source.
  • Please protect your product from excessive solar radiation and heat.
  • All repairs must be performed by KAHLES.

Please observe the attached installation instruction to mount our original accessories.

11 TRIPOD ADAPTER (HELIA & HELIA RF)

Remove the cover of the tripod connection thread by turning it counter clockwise. For mounting the binos at a tripod you need an adapter which is commercially available.

The devices comply with EU directives 2011/65/EU, 2012/19/EU und 2014/30/EU.

This product emits Laser Class 1M Laser Radiation. Do not view directly with optical instruments. This product complies with IEC 60825-1:2014.
