GPO Spectra 8x 1.6-13x44i riflescope

After exploring GPO’s latest products at Shot Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, we learned just a few days before IWA in Nuremberg that they were introducing a new addition to their Spectra series of riflescopes. This exciting news led our marketing team to visit their booth at IWA to take a closer look at its features, which we’ll discuss in this article.

Our blog already features coverage of the new products GPO unveiled at Shot Show, including the Passion SD binoculars series, Rangeguide 3200 8×40 and 10×40 models, and the GPO Rangetracker 2000.

Spectra 8x 1.6-13x44i – an all-rounder for hunting

The label ‘all-rounder’ was once predominantly associated with 50mm hunting riflescopes. However, as thermal clip-ons become increasingly popular, this designation is gradually shifting towards scopes with 42mm and 44mm lenses, particularly those offering magnification levels from approximately 1.5x to 10x or beyond. These scopes are not only lighter than their 50mm counterparts but also adept at fulfilling their role in low-light conditions and even in darkness when paired with a thermal clip-on.

The 1.6-13x44i stands out for its compactness, featuring an exceptionally short objective bell. It provides a versatile magnification range, accommodating both close and distant shots.

Ballistic turret option

One feature that particularly caught our attention upon viewing this riflescope is the optional ballistic turret. This turret comes with 5 rings, numbered 1–5. The concept allows you to zero the riflescope at five different distances (1 for 100 m, 2 for 200 m, 3 for 300 m, 4 for 400 m, 5 for 500 m), which is particularly useful for hunters who engage targets at variable ranges. The solution is incredibly simple and does the job well.

Should you initially choose a standard model lacking the ballistic turret, it’s possible to add this feature at a later time. Currently, this is the sole model within the Spectra series available with the ballistic turret option, though GPO might expand it to other models in the future.

The other features

This riflescope features a 30mm tube and offers an adjustable parallax setting, ranging from 10 meters to infinity. Adjacent to the parallax adjustment is the illumination control, which includes an off-switch between each brightness level. The scope features a G4i Fiber reticle, a derivative of the famous German 4 reticle.
