Athlon Optics is steadily becoming a more recognizable brand in the optics industry, consistently introducing new products and expanding its lineup each year. At this year’s Shot Show, Andraž from our marketing team spoke with Dustin about the latest addition, the Athlon Cronus G2 UHD 20-60×86 Spotting Scope.
Cronus G2 UHD – Athlon’s Flagship Spotting Scope
The Athlon Cronus G2 UHD 20-60×86 Spotting Scope was initially introduced in January 2023, but Athlon provided us with a closer look at the Shot Show. The model represents Athlon’s flagship spotting scope line which becomes apparent immediately when first holding the device.

The scope is designed with a 45-degree eyepiece angle and includes a built-in sunshade and an apochromatic lens system which adds an optical element to help converge refracting colors into one focus point, improving contrast, sharpness, and color definition. The focus wheel operates smoothly, making it easy to zoom and adjust magnification from 20x to 60x.
The Cronus G2 uses BAK4 prisms, known for their high refractive index and low light dispersion. A circular button on the right side enables quick adjustments to the eyepiece direction. Additionally, the eyecup features a twist-up mechanism, accommodating both users with glasses and those without, for comfortable viewing.

The device features UHD extra-low dispersion glass, delivering images that are sharp and clear with minimal chromatic aberration. The lenses come with an XPL protective coating that shields the scope from dirt and scratches. G2 UHD has a magnesium housing which is sealed to ensure full waterproofing. Argon gas purging increases the scope’s resistance to internal fogging and protects its internal components from corrosion. Additionally, the scope comes with a tripod mount and weighs just over 2 kg (71 oz).

Price and Warranty
The Chronus G2 comes with Athlon’s lifetime warranty, effective for as long as the model remains in production, applicable in the US market. In Europe, due to EU regulations, the warranty is defined in years, with an expected 10-year warranty period for the device.

Currently priced at 1250 $ in the US, the cost is anticipated to be slightly higher in Europe, accounting for export expenses. Considering its quality, we find this price reasonable, particularly in comparison to other premium competitors like Vortex.
