During Shot Show 2024, Andraž from our marketing team visited the Arken Optics booth to explore their lineup for the upcoming year. He met with Josh from Arken Optics to discuss the new addition to their product range: the EP8 1-8×28 LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic) Riflescope that was released in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The EP8 1-8×28 – Arken’s Affordable LPVO
The EP8 is a 1-8×28 FFP riflescope featuring a 34 mm tube, designed to offer a true 1x magnification for both-eyes-open operation. The scope introduces the patent-pending KL Box BDC reticle, aimed at enhancing performance in high-stress situations. The reticle’s design, with outside numbers extending diagonally below the centerline, helps correlate distance in yards, while turret adjustments are made at 1/4 MOA increments. However, according to Josh, plans are in place to introduce a MIL version as well in the future. Additionally, the reticle is equipped with nine brightness levels, along with two settings specifically for night vision use. Illumination is powered by the CR2032 battery which comes included with the scope. Additionally, EP8 features a fixed parallax set at around 91.5 meters (100 yards).
The elevation adjustment turret is capped, requiring a tool to reset to zero, and operates on a quarter MOA per click system. The zoom ring operates smoothly, and the scope’s build quality is impressive to the touch. Constructed with aircraft-grade aluminum, it offers both waterproof and fogproof protection.
While the primary production of Arken scopes occurs in China, the scope features multi-coated lenses and premium Japanese glass, providing clear and bright visuals even in low light. This was clearly visible, even under the challenging lighting conditions of the fair.
Instead of the bikini cover, the EP8 comes with added flip caps which is a really nice addition likely to be well-received by users. The device weighs just under 600 g (around 21 oz) which gives it a very rugged and compact feeling.
Final Thoughts, Warranty and Price
Included in the box are the scope, a lens cloth, and the aforementioned flip caps. The EP8 includes a 30-day satisfaction guarantee allowing for returns within 30 days of receipt if not completely satisfied. Arken sells the device with a lifetime warranty in the US, valid as long as the scope is in production. In the EU market, regulatory requirements mean the warranty is specified in years, expected to be around 10 years. The scope will go for around 630 € on the EU market, though the exact end price might change slightly so keep an eye on our blog for any price updates.
It’s encouraging to see Arken Optics evolve, delivering a dependable LPVO scope that promises to capture a lot of interest in the future.
